Areas of work
We provide advocacy services direct to children in young people in care, in need, in secure accommodation, in psychiatric units and to care leavers. Advocates around the country support children and young people to get their voice heard in decisions about their lives, working alongside our helpline advocates and specialist advocates (including specialist advocacy services for Care Leavers and Young People aged 16 plus, Children and Young People with a Disability or Mental Health issues, and Young Asylum Seekers and Refugees). Advocates will represent the views of young people but they will also empower young people to express their views directly to decision makers.

The Independent Person for Complaints helps to ensure that the complaints process is fair and that the young person's views are heard.
The Investigating Officer's role is to lead the investigation in Children Act Complaints, conducting it fairly and thoroughly and ensuring that all parties are heard.
The Independent Person for Secure Accommodation Reviews (SAR) is one of a panel of three deciding whether a young person continues to be appropriately placed in a secure children's home.
An Independent Visitor is a volunteer who provides a positive adult relationship for the child or young person, befriending them by visiting, encouraging them to express their views and opinions and involve themselves in new activities. We provide participation services to ensure children and young people have a voice in the development and delivery of services and campaigning, and through the process, provide the opportunity to develop relevant skills which will be of benefit to them in their future lives.
Learning and Development
The Learning and Development team design and deliver specialist training courses in the fields of Children’s Rights, Advocacy and Participation, as well as creating learning materials for Coram Voice staff and other professionals.
Legal and Policy
The Legal and Policy Unit focuses on promoting policy developments in relation to the care system and the youth justice system and campaigns for better outcomes for children and young people in care. The unit provides legal advice, information and training to staff and freelance workers within Coram Voice and responds to consultation documents from Government and other agencies.
Infrastructure Support Services
Our infrastructure support services comprise the fundraising, communications, finance, IT, human resources, and administration teams who together provide support and advice across a wide range of areas to ensure that frontline services can be delivered to a high professional standard and that vital funds can be raised.
